[WEEK 3 SUNDAY, POST-EXECUTION: Lucina]
[at some point, these two are finally getting around to burning that weird. . . volleyball effigy of Lucina. they probably do it on the beach, near the bonfire, because burning an effigy near an already lit source of flame is the easiest thing to do]

Hey, Lucina.
Now that we know evil Jack killed a guy, did anything weird happen on Thursday night when he was with you and Laura?

Hey, Lucina.
Now that we know evil Jack killed a guy, did anything weird happen on Thursday night when he was with you and Laura?
[oh]

... oh.
The question distracts her. She glances over, expression gentle. ]
No, not at all. I assumed that he was uninvolved. [ A suppressed sigh. ] I thought he wanted to discuss the situation. I didn't think he would use me to cement an alibi. I ... I hope he didn't. [ :( ]
no subject
Who's to say? He made it sound like more of an accident than anything, so if we take him at face value, then he probably didn't have time to think about securing an alibi before it happened.

[ Lucina looks down at her hand. If there had been a disturbance to get him out of the hut, and she had slept through it -- or, worse, if Laura and Jack had collaborated and used her as a convenient prop in their conspiring...
Lucina hardly feels like she can trust anyone anymore.
She shakes her head. ]
I suspect there is a lot about their motives that we can't currently decipher. Not with the limited information we have.
no subject
[she hadn't pressed because he seemed so reticent to talk, but. she was so, so curious]
Not that I'm surprised he didn't, considering there's still one other Wickie out there. But him being a culprit also calls into question the actual timing of these killings, doesn't it?
[they've all been assuming that everyone being in a hut from curfew start to finish exempted them from being a suspect, but. that's demonstrably not true anymore]
no subject
[ Sighing, she rubs at her face. It's rare to see Lucina look so frustrated. Magilou will have seen it more and more over the past days. ]
Perhaps ... perhaps there's something to be gained from locating this other Wickie, and questioning them.
no subject
[or! that's what she'd like to think. the rare glint of frustration has also not gone unnoticed]
And I think so, but that's obviously easier said than done. The Wickie isn't going to come forward knowing that doing so could get them killed by the Sirens.

[ Lucina is finding herself wishing for Laurent's clear minded, tactical counsel, or even -- even someone else.
Finishing her ice cream pop, she tosses the stick into the fires. ]
If we figured out who it was, perchance we could approach them...
[ She's thinking herself into a corner. Help. ]

[SHE TRIED]
[and she isn't wrong, either]

[ It's...
Almost a suggestion! ]

Hey. . . Lucina.
Were you being honest when you said you didn't have a role?
literal copypasta...
I was.
Why do you ask?
that sure makes tagging easy!! 1/2
[she gestures to the fire, twirling her now-empty ice cream stick around one finger]
I speculated the other day that maybe whoever set it up was trying to tell us something. And after that trial, I though. . . well. What if they're trying to tell us the identity of someone who has a role?
[. . .]
Maybe Jack checked you, and found out you were a Siren, but couldn't actually tell anyone due to the restrictions of his role. And so. . . he set up the effigy instead.
[. . .]

[tosses her ice-cream stick into the fire with a smile]
And if it were true, then after he was sentenced to be executed, I'm sure he could've just told everyone you were a Siren anyway!

[ Lucina rises from her spot, shifting to kneel at Magilou's feet. It isn't quite subservant, as she leans straight, her one hand resting in her lap. Her eyes are wide and clear, and honest.
There's no hesitation. ]
I swear to you now, I am not a siren.
[ A brief pause. ]
You've nothing to fear from me.
1/2
[Lucina??]
[LUCINA???]
no subject
. . . if you were a Siren, I'd protect you anyway. [why, though? that isn't a question she's answer, but truthfully, it wouldn't all be for her own sake anymore] Maybe I'm just a little selfish like that.
no subject
[ And, truthfully?
Lucina is smiling to hear it. Hopefully it will not be necessary - she meant it when she denied Magilou's theory - but sweet nonetheless. ]
But, such a thing should be reciprocated. I hope you would let me protect you too, if it came down to it.
no subject
I'll allow for it. I am, after all, completely and utterly helpless.
[LUCINA IS MISSING AN ARM, MAGILOU]
Well, anyway. We all know I don't have a role now, thanks to evil Jack. So that's not something you have to worry about.
no subject
I wonder about what was going through his mind.
Do you truly believe he was evil?
no subject
[not evil, nope]
Evil twins and triplets are just famous literary cliches. One of the three Jacks had to be evil by nature of said cliche!
no subject
[ And then, remembering something else about the execution, she adds -- ]
And the other two, well - they were in love, weren't they?
[ THEY KISSED
IT WAS WEIRD ]
no subject
[THEY DIDN'T JUST KISS THEY MADE OUT]
But hey, if that's what floats their goat. . .
no subject
[ SHE DOESN'T UNDERSTAND ALL YOUR MODERN, NEWFANGLED PHRASES
damn kids ]
no subject
Floats their goat! It's a saying, or something.
[not even the right saying, Magilou]
For whatever makes someone happy.
